The biggest power plant in the World: Australia's Sun Cable
This project aims to produce enough energy to power millions of homes and provide electricity to Darwin with an 800 km Overhead Transmission Line of 6,4 gigawatts, then all the way to Singapore via an high-tension undersea cable with the length of around 4.300 kilometers.
SunCable will cover an area of around 12.400 hectares and will have an estimated value of 30 billion Australian dollars. The solar power plant will be able to generate up to 10 gigawatts of energy, with 4 gigawatts earmarked for domestic use in Australia and 2 gigawatts exported to thr country of Singapore, covering 15% of the city-state's energy needs.
SunCable will use advanced solar panels and large-capacity batteries to store up to 40 gigawatts of energy. This will allow us all to provide renewable energy 24/7.
"Australia’s solar resource could power the world’s electricity needs 100 times over," written in the site of Sun Cable.
This project is expected to create approximately 14,300 jobs and enough energy to power 3 million houses in the country of Australia. Furthermore, collaboration with indigenous communities and local governments will ensure that the project is sustainable and respectful of cultural traditions. A Vision for the Future SunCable is backed by prominent figures such as tech billionaire and environmental activist Mike Cannon-Brookes. The solar power plant is currently expected to begin generating power by 2030.
"A project like Sun Cable which has the potential to export clean energy to Singapore is the ultimate win-win."
said Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese.
Those plans have changed, firstly after a failing with another billionaire, Andrew Forrest, who wanted the project to focus on green hydrogen chance. Then, after the Australian based Quinbrook Infrastructure was brought in, the project soon changed again.
Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek said the solar park will be "the largest solar area in the world, making Australia the world leader in green energy". She highlighted the importance of the project for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating jobs in northern Australia.
Cameron Garnsworthy, chief executive of Sun Cable Australia, called the government approval "an important moment in the evolution of the project". The project is seen as a crucial step towards Australia's energy transition and its role as an exporter of renewable energy.
